As a parent of a transgender person, and as an English Lecturer at SLCC, I saw an opportunity while listening to you speak. You were discussing the need for voter participation and the need for active participation in social change. This conversation fits very well into the current agenda for Salt Lake Community College’s Writing for Social Justice Conference. Each year, the conference selects a theme and asks for participants to interact with students both before and during the official date of the conference. This year, we have selected a textbook The Impossible Will Take A While, by Paul Loeb. Loeb is famous for his work empowering students to become politically active and to get to the polls. Utah Democrats need, now more than ever, to feel empowered to vote and be heard in other ways. You have been involved in a process that we often thought would be impossible and you have assisted in the change of a lifetime. It is wonderful and awe- inspiring. If you are willing to, I would like to share your information with the event coordinators so that you can be formally invited to participate this April in the Writing for Social Justice Conference and/or events that will lead up to the event.
